On Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Cultural Hall “Finetto” in Piazza Don Bosco 21 in Bozen-Bolzano will host the 25th edition of Linux Day, the largest Italian event dedicated to Free Software, open culture, and sharing. The LUGBZ (Linux User Group Bozen-Bolzano-Bulsan) has been part of this initiative since its founding in 2001. Today, Linux Day has become the national reference event for those who believe in a more transparent, sustainable, and independent digital future.

The FUSS Project (Free Upgrade for a Digitally Sustainable School) celebrates its 20th anniversary this year (2005‑2025), a significant milestone for an initiative that has revolutionised the approach to technology in the schools of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. Since 2005, FUSS has provided a complete GNU/Linux solution, allowing students and teachers to use the same computing tools at home and at school, without additional costs for families.

Il Progetto FUSS (Free Upgrade for a Digitally Sustainable School) celebra quest’anno il suo ventesimo anniversario (2005-2025), un traguardo significativo per un’iniziativa che ha rivoluzionato l’approccio alla tecnologia nelle scuole della Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano. Dal 2005, FUSS ha fornito una soluzione GNU/Linux completa, permettendo a studenti e docenti di utilizzare gli stessi strumenti informatici a casa e a scuola, senza costi aggiuntivi per le famiglie.

Das FUSS-Projekt (Free Upgrade for a Digitally Sustainable School) feiert in diesem Jahr sein 20‑jähriges Bestehen (2005‑2025), ein bedeutender Meilenstein für eine Initiative, die den Technologieansatz an den Schulen der Autonomen Provinz Bozen revolutioniert hat. Seit 2005 hat FUSS eine vollständige GNU/Linux‑Lösung bereitgestellt, die es Schülerinnen, Schülern und Lehrkräften ermöglicht, dieselben IT‑Werkzeuge zu Hause und in der Schule zu nutzen, ohne zusätzliche Kosten für die Familien.

Lunedì 16 giugno partirà l’edizione 2025 della MiniBZ, la Città dei Ragazzi - Kinderstadt - Zità di Mutons che si tiene presso la Fiera di Bolzano. Circa 1.000 iscritti dai 7 ai 14 anni popolano per due settimane una città in miniatura con tanto di municipio, anagrafe, ufficio di collocamento, giornale, cinema, teatro, sportello bancario e decine di altri settori nei quali ragazze e ragazzi possono lavorare e guadagnare il denaro della MiniBZ che si chiama Euro-Ghello spendibile nella città.

Quest’anno la città è cresciuta e di conseguenza anche l’infrastruttura digitale che conta circa 100 personal computer connessi in rete, ciascuno dei quali ha a bordo il sistema operativo FUSS, sviluppato a partire dal 2005 dall’omonimo servizio dell’Intendenza Scolastica italiana della Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano ed in uso in tutte le scuole di ogni ordine e grado e liberamente utilizzabile anche dalle famiglie.

Every year the Linux User Group Bozen-Bolzano-Bulsan confers the “South Tyrol Free Software Award” (SFS Award). The award is given to a person who contributed to the introduction of the culture of Free Software in the Province of Bolzano.

The Free Software Award 2024 was delivered to Angelika Stuefer with Franca Riesch De Pasquale.

Saturday, October 26 starting at 9:30 a.m. the Linux Day 2024 - South Tyrol will be held at the Istituto Salesiano Rainerum in Bozen/Bolzano. It’s an event that is celebrated nationwide in more than 40 cities with many live talks, parallel sessions and the chance to connect with enthusiasts, curious people, professionals and volunteers in every part of Italy!
