Brief History of the FUSS Project
The project FUSS (Free Upgrade in South Tyrol’s Schools) started in 2005 with the aim of bringing Free Software to schools in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. The project was financed by the European Social Fund and administratively managed by the Scuola Professionale Einaudi di Bolzano, which chose to take advantage of the advice and collaboration of an Italian company operating in the Free Software IT market, the company Truelite Srl.

Download FUSS server and client and create an educational network
Server To install a FUSS server (whether physical or virtual), simply use the official Debian 12 “bookworm” image, following the instructions given in the FUSS Tech Guide.
If the FUSS server is installed as a virtual machine in the Proxmox VE virtualization environment, it is recommended to follow the quick installation procedure via cloud-init presented in the FUSS Tech Guide.

E’ attivo a Bolzano, Merano e Brunico lo Sportello Open & Linux. Un gruppo di volontari è a disposizione dei cittadini gratuitamente due volte al mese per
installare e configurare il sistema operativo GNU/Linux ed in particolare le distribuzioni FUSS e Linux Mint; installare e configurare software libero (p.es. LibreOffice, Firefox, Gimp, …); guidare all’uso di GNU/Linux e di software libero come avviene nelle scuole grazie al progetto FUSS; configurare il lettore di smartcard per accedere ai servizi di eGovernment; fornire aiuto per la richiesta delle credenziali SPID (Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale).
